Natural Grocers Recalls Organic Mung Beans Over Glass
Mung beans are one of my favorite meal-prep shortcuts: they cook fast, hold their shape in the fridge for days, and bulk up a stir-fry without any real effort. So when a mung bean recall landed in my feed this week, I stopped scrolling.
What’s recalled
Natural Grocers (Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets) is recalling its store-brand Natural Grocers Organic Mung Beans, sold in 2-pound clear plastic bags, UPC 000080112600. The issue is pieces of glass found in some bags, a choking hazard and a real risk of mouth or GI tract injury. No injuries have been reported so far.
The recall covers pack dates 26-160, 26-173, 26-196, 26-224, and 26-258, shipped to stores starting June 10, 2026. That’s a wide window, and the beans went out to 22 states: Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
What to do with your bag
Check the pack date in the lower left corner of the label. If it matches one of the five above, don’t cook or eat them. Toss the bag in a sealed trash bag so no one else grabs it, or bring it back to Natural Grocers for a refund.
Keep the mung beans in your meal prep, just not this bag
Mung beans are too useful a pantry staple to give up over one bad batch from one brand. Once you’ve got a clean bag, they slide right into the kind of quick stir-fry I build my week around. My Mediterranean ground beef stir fry is a good template: swap in a handful of cooked mung beans alongside the beef for extra bulk and protein, and you’ve stretched one pan into two more lunches.
