Winter Wonderland Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Add salt, vanilla extract, and eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and nuts if using.
  7. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough about 2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake until cookies are golden around the edges but still soft in the center, about 10-12 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven, let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, lightly dust with powdered sugar to create a winter wonderland effect.

Notes

For extra festive flair, add a pinch of cinnamon or a few crushed peppermint candies to the dough. Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to a week.
