Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt dark chocolate and butter together over a double boiler or in 30-second microwave intervals, stirring until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar and eggs until pale and thick, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Gently fold the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until combined.
  5. Sift flour, cocoa powder, and salt together, then fold into the chocolate mixture along with vanilla extract.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 20-24 minutes until edges are set but center remains slightly fudgy.
  7. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.

Notes

This dessert can be served warm or at room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days. The center should have a molten quality; avoid overbaking.
