If a scoop of green powder is part of your morning smoothie routine, this one’s worth thirty seconds of your time. A nationwide recall just went out for organic moringa leaf powder over possible salmonella, and because this is exactly the kind of thing that sits in a pantry for months, plenty of jars are still in circulation. I meal-prep smoothie bags on Sundays, so I checked mine the second I saw it.
What’s being recalled
Foods Alive, based in Angola, Indiana, is recalling its 8-ounce packages of organic moringa leaf powder because they may be contaminated with salmonella. The recall was reported on September 5, 2026. Here’s how to spot the affected product:
- Product: Organic Moringa Leaf Powder, 8-ounce package
- Freshest-by code: 110127, with the number 02726 printed just below it
- Shipped: between January 27 and August 7, 2026
- Sold: at retailers nationwide and online at foodsalive.com
The company says the potential contamination turned up when a supplier tested a sample of a super green powder mix. Foods Alive has paused production while the FDA looks into it, and as of the announcement no illnesses had been reported.
Why a shelf-stable powder still matters
Here’s the pragmatic part. Moringa doesn’t get cooked — it goes straight into cold smoothies, overnight oats, or a glass of water. There’s no heat step to kill anything off, which is why a salmonella flag on a raw green powder is taken seriously. Salmonella can bring on diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, usually within 6 hours to 6 days, and it hits kids, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system hardest.
What to do if it’s in your pantry
Pull your jar and check the code. If it reads 110127 / 02726, don’t use it — not even “just a little.” Take it back to the store for a full refund, or call Foods Alive at 260-488-4497. If you already blended a batch of smoothie freezer packs with it, toss those too and give your blender and shaker bottle a hot, soapy wash.
Keep your smoothie routine going
Losing your greens boost for a week isn’t a crisis. You can keep the habit rolling with whole fruit and a handful of spinach, which blends in without the grassy edge anyway. My go-to when I want something that still feels like a treat is this raspberry peach smoothie — it takes about three minutes and freezes well in prep bags. Once Foods Alive is back in the clear (or you grab a different verified brand), fold the moringa back in.
