Tater Tot Mini Cheeseburger Bites

These mini cheeseburger bites use crispy tater tots as buns, topped with seasoned ground beef patties, melted cheddar cheese, caramelized onion jam, and pickles for a perfect party appetizer or game day snack.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 24 mini cheeseburgers 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry minced onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup bacon bits
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Caramelized onion jam
  • Hamburger dill pickle chips
  • Toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Cook tater tots in the oven according to package directions (typically 425°F for 18-20 minutes). Set aside and reduce oven temperature to 400°F.
  2. Preheat 2 half sheet pans or 1 large sheet pan in the oven for 10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, bacon bits, and shredded sharp cheddar cheese until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  4. Form the mixture into small patties slightly larger than the width of the tater tots, about the size of a shot glass top.
  5. Place patties on the preheated baking sheet(s) and bake for 3-4 minutes, then flip.
  6. Top each flipped patty with a small square of cheddar cheese and bake for another 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.
  7. Assemble mini cheeseburgers by layering a tater tot, a cheeseburger patty with melted cheese, a pickle chip, and another tater tot on top.
  8. Secure each assembled mini burger with a toothpick.

Notes

For best results, do not over-mix the beef mixture to keep patties tender. Use sharp cheddar for a flavorful cheese topping. Caramelized onion jam adds a sweet and savory contrast that elevates the bite.
