Tater Tot Mini Cheeseburger Bites

These mini cheeseburger bites use crispy tater tots as buns, topped with seasoned ground beef patties, melted cheddar cheese, caramelized onion jam, and pickles, making a perfect appetizer for parties or game day.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12-16 mini cheeseburgers 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry minced onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Caramelized onion jam (for topping)
  • Hamburger dill pickle chips
  • Toothpicks for assembly

Instructions

  1. Cook tater tots in the oven according to package directions (typically 425°F for 18-20 minutes). Set aside and reduce oven temperature to 400°F.
  2. Preheat baking sheet(s) in the oven for 10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and dry minced onion until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  4. Form the mixture into small patties slightly larger than the width of the tater tots (about the size of a shot glass).
  5. Place patties on the preheated baking sheet and bake for 3-4 minutes. Flip patties, top each with a small square of cheddar cheese, and bake for another 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.
  6. Assemble mini cheeseburgers by placing a dollop of caramelized onion jam on a tater tot, then a cheeseburger patty, a pickle chip, and top with another tater tot.
  7. Secure each mini cheeseburger with a toothpick and serve.

Notes

For best results, do not over-mix the ground beef to keep patties tender. Use sharp cheddar for a flavorful cheese melt. These bites are perfect for parties and can be customized with your favorite burger toppings.
