Luxurious Vanilla Custard Cream Bars

A rich and creamy dessert bar with a buttery shortbread crust and smooth vanilla custard topping.

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup butter until crumbly. Press into 8×8 inch pan and bake for 15 minutes until golden.
  2. Whisk egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar, and cornstarch in saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbling.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and 2 tablespoons butter until smooth. Pour over baked crust and refrigerate for at least 4 hours until set.
  4. Cut into bars and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
