For the Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup butter until crumbly. Press into 8×8 inch pan and bake for 15 minutes until golden.
- Whisk egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar, and cornstarch in saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbling.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and 2 tablespoons butter until smooth. Pour over baked crust and refrigerate for at least 4 hours until set.
- Cut into bars and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
