- 10 apples (any variety, washed and quartered)
- 1 orange, quartered
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 tablespoon allspice berries
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 10 cups water
Instructions
- Place the quartered apples and orange into a large stockpot.
- Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice berries to the pot.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release more flavor.
- Simmer for another hour.
- Strain the cider through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher.
- Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
- Serve hot or cold as desired.
Notes
You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar. The cider can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. For a spiced kick, add a splash of rum or bourbon when serving.
