  • Total Time: 3 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 apples (any variety, washed and quartered)
  • 1 orange, quartered
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon allspice berries
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 10 cups water

Instructions

  1. Place the quartered apples and orange into a large stockpot.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice berries to the pot.
  3. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release more flavor.
  6. Simmer for another hour.
  7. Strain the cider through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher.
  8. Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.

Notes

You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar. The cider can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. For a spiced kick, add a splash of rum or bourbon when serving.
