Easy Hamburger Steak and Gravy

Classic hamburger steaks served with a rich mushroom gravy, perfect comfort food made with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dried minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 14 1/2 ounces beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, milk, Worcestershire sauce, dried minced onion, steak seasoning, and garlic powder. Mix well and shape into 4 patties about 3/4 inch thick.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties 5-6 minutes per side until cooked through (160°F internal temperature). Remove patties and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add remaining butter. Once melted, sauté mushrooms about 3 minutes until tender.
  4. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.
  5. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to combine and scraping up any browned bits.
  6. Bring gravy to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
  7. Season gravy with salt and pepper to taste. Nestle hamburger steaks back into the gravy and simmer for 1 minute.
  8. Serve hamburger steaks topped with mushroom gravy with your favorite sides.

Notes

Use fresh mushrooms for best flavor; adjust steak seasoning and Worcestershire sauce to taste. For a thicker gravy, add a little more flour. Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
