Gooey Chocolate Pecan Cake

A decadent and rich chocolate cake with a gooey center and crunchy pecans.

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups hot water

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Spread batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the batter, then carefully pour hot water over the top without stirring.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is set but the center remains gooey.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
