For the Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cups hot water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in chopped pecans.
- Spread batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the batter, then carefully pour hot water over the top without stirring.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is set but the center remains gooey.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
