Easy Vanilla Custard Cream Bars

A simple and delicious dessert with a creamy vanilla custard filling on a buttery crust.

For the Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, softened butter, and 1/4 cup sugar until crumbly. Press into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan, whisk milk, 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, and salt over medium heat until thickened (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. Pour custard over the baked crust and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into bars.

Notes
