- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually blend dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar on top of each cookie.
- Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until golden and crisp. Allow to cool completely before serving.
Notes
Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar topping for the authentic crème brûlée effect. If you don’t have a torch, broil the cookies briefly but watch closely to avoid burning.
