- 3 large apples, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch wedges
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon apple pie spice
- 5 tablespoons ground cinnamon, divided
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Olive oil nonstick cooking spray
- Caramel sauce or powdered sugar glaze (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Peel the apples and cut each into 1/2 inch wedges.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, apple pie spice, and 4 tablespoons of cinnamon.
- Transfer the flour mixture to a container with a lid, add apple wedges, cover, and shake to coat all sides.
- Remove apple wedges with a slotted spoon, shaking off excess flour mixture, and place on a plate.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and vanilla extract.
- Dredge apple wedges in the egg mixture.
- Return wedges to the flour mixture container and shake again to coat a second time.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and remaining 1 tablespoon cinnamon.
- Spray air fryer basket with olive oil spray and place coated apple wedges in a single layer.
- Spray the top of the apples with olive oil spray and sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over them.
- Air fry at 350°F for 6 minutes.
- Flip the apple wedges, spray again with olive oil spray, and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon sugar.
- Air fry for an additional 6 minutes until crispy and golden.
- Serve warm with caramel sauce or powdered sugar glaze if desired.
Notes
For best results, use firm apples like Gala or Honeycrisp. The double coating ensures a crispy texture. Serve immediately for optimal crispness or reheat briefly in the air fryer.
