Christmas Lasagna

A festive lasagna featuring layers of sausage, ground beef, tomato sauce, ricotta, and mozzarella cheeses, arranged in a traditional no-boil noodle lasagna format with a colorful bell pepper Christmas tree decoration on top.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 jars (about 26 oz each) spaghetti or pasta sauce
  • 45 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 32 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 package no-boil lasagna noodles
  • Green, red, and yellow bell peppers for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Brown and drain the sausage and ground beef together in a skillet.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked meat with the pasta sauce.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the eggs and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
  5. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Layer no-boil noodles over the sauce.
  7. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
  8. Sprinkle with more shredded mozzarella.
  9. Add another layer of meat sauce.
  10. Repeat layers of noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and sauce until ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of noodles, sauce, and shredded mozzarella.
  11. Optionally, arrange bell pepper slices on top in the shape of a Christmas tree to decorate.
  12. Cover with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and heated through.
  13. Remove foil for last few minutes to brown the cheese on top.
  14. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

To add festive flair, use green bell peppers for the tree limbs, red and yellow peppers for decorations, and a yellow pepper slice for the star. For best texture, let lasagna rest before slicing. You can prepare this the day before and bake on Christmas Eve.
