Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 jars (about 26 oz each) spaghetti or pasta sauce
- 4–5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 32 oz ricotta cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1 package no-boil lasagna noodles
- Green, red, and yellow bell peppers for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Brown and drain the sausage and ground beef together in a skillet.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked meat with the pasta sauce.
- In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the eggs and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer no-boil noodles over the sauce.
- Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle with more shredded mozzarella.
- Add another layer of meat sauce.
- Repeat layers of noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and sauce until ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of noodles, sauce, and shredded mozzarella.
- Optionally, arrange bell pepper slices on top in the shape of a Christmas tree to decorate.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and heated through.
- Remove foil for last few minutes to brown the cheese on top.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
To add festive flair, use green bell peppers for the tree limbs, red and yellow peppers for decorations, and a yellow pepper slice for the star. For best texture, let lasagna rest before slicing. You can prepare this the day before and bake on Christmas Eve.
