  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup red and green M&Ms (or nuts, candy canes, toffee bits, pretzels, or sprinkles)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with saltine crackers in a single layer.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.
  3. Allow the mixture to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  4. Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading to cover completely.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 to 6 minutes until bubbly.
  6. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee layer. Let sit for 5 minutes to soften.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee layer.
  8. Sprinkle red and green M&Ms (or your choice of toppings) over the melted chocolate.
  9. Allow to cool completely at room temperature until chocolate is set, about 25 minutes.
  10. Break into pieces and serve.
