Scalloped Potatoes

These Scalloped Potatoes are creamy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious! They are the perfect side dish for any meal.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk. Cook until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in cheese, salt, pepper, and paprika until cheese is melted.
  5. Layer half of the potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  6. Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.

Notes

For the best results, slice the potatoes uniformly to ensure even cooking. Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
