For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls, split and toasted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 12 meatballs and bake for 20 minutes.
- In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and sugar, cook until caramelized (about 20 minutes). Stir in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Place meatballs on toasted hoagie rolls, top with caramelized onions and both cheeses. Broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
