Cheesy French Onion Meatball Melts

A delicious twist on French onion soup with juicy meatballs, caramelized onions, and melted cheese on toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls, split and toasted
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 12 meatballs and bake for 20 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and sugar, cook until caramelized (about 20 minutes). Stir in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Place meatballs on toasted hoagie rolls, top with caramelized onions and both cheeses. Broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
