Boston Cream Donuts

Classic Boston Cream Donuts with a rich custard filling and chocolate glaze.

For the Crust:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vanilla custard or pastry cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter. Knead until smooth.
  3. Cover dough and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out dough and cut into circles. Let rise again for 30 minutes.
  5. Fry donuts in oil at 350°F until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Fill each donut with custard using a piping bag.
  7. Melt chocolate chips with heavy cream for the glaze. Dip the tops of the donuts in the glaze and let set.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
