Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium firm pears (such as Bosc or Anjou), peeled and cored
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 2 to 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup mixed fresh berries (such as blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Peel and core the pears, leaving stems intact for presentation. Place the pears cut side up in a baking dish.
- Drizzle lemon juice and vanilla extract over the pears to prevent browning and add flavor.
- Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt evenly over the pears. Scatter the butter cubes on top.
- Arrange the mixed berries around the pears in the baking dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes cut side up until pears start to soften.
- Turn the pears cut side down, spoon the caramel formed in the dish over the pears and berries to coat.
- Bake for another 20 to 30 minutes or until the pears are tender and caramel has thickened.
- Serve warm, optionally spooning extra caramel and berries over the top.
Notes
Use firmer pear varieties for best results to keep shape during baking. Adjust baking time depending on pear ripeness. Mixed berries add freshness and complement the sweetness of caramelized pears.
