Ingredients
Scale
- 2.5 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.75 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray an 8 or 9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon. Toss to coat evenly.
- Transfer apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk to combine.
- Add melted butter and stir with a fork until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- Sprinkle crumble mixture evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until bubbling and golden brown on top.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before serving with ice cream if desired.
Notes
Granny Smith apples work best for their tartness and texture. The filling will continue to thicken as the crumble cools. For extra texture, add rolled oats to the topping.
